On behalf of the Planning Office of the Federal Armed Forces (org. Bundeswehr), the consortium of Fraunhofer Institutes FKIE, FOKUS, and IOSB conducted a prototype investigation into the use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, using the example of individual training courses in the Army. Project summary
Through a requirements analysis with the key role holders and stakeholders of the responsible Army sector, the Fraunhofer Institutes identified a selection of four AI functionalities that were to be implemented and tested in a demonstrator.
To realize the AI-supported learning environment, the existing Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) in the Army was linked with the innovative Fraunhofer Common Learning Middleware (CLM) and a mobile learning application. The solution approach was then evaluated in a field test with an accompanying survey. The advantages of using AI were confirmed, such as personalized assistance and usage analysis.
